We’ve been attending Comic con for 3 years in a row and it was always a fun experience whenever we go every year. This time though we decided to join the fun and wear costume! While we’re at it we might as well join the cosplay competition right? I mean it wasn’t all about winning, for us it’s about the experience and I’m telling you, it was a nerve wracking one! But totally worth it.
We initially thought of wearing Cloud from Final Fantasy and his partner which I forgot the name. Considering we are asians so the character fits. But looking at their costume, it doesn’t have that cool factor plus Rio doesn’t want to wear wig.
But we went for Marvel characters’ Winter Soldier and Black Widow because they’re BAD ASSSS. Simple as that tee hee. No seriously. Well I’ve always wanted to wear an overall suit. I don’t want to be a typical cat woman so I went for Black Widow. I was not able to wear wig because the one I bought was all ruined the last minute so I was like, forget it I’ll go with my hair.
At the backstage before the competition start, I was gobsmacked by the effort these cosplayers put for their costumes! Hands up, heads down for these people. I can say that we had the most simplest costume inside the room. The details of the design, hair and makeup. Some of them actually looked exactly like the character. It’s so unbelievable. The time they got in their hands, really made me wonder.
We were asked to do a bit of a skit when being called. It was the last thing Rio and I thought of. So on the spot we think of something we should do at the stage. We re-enact a fight scene, it supposedly look like a fight scene but I don’t know how it looked like from the audience ha ha. It was super quick it didn’t last even 30 seconds.
And yes there is HULK BUSTER cosplayer!!! Like how??!!! But yes it was moving and lighting it was super cool!! All his efforts was worth it though, he won 50inch TV from Samsung! We didn’t win of course, it’s already expected. But remember kids, it’s not always about winning, it’s about living the moment, taking the whole new experience all in which more important for me. I have stories to tell my kids in the future.
I hope they will not increase the prices anymore as it is getting expensive. Last year it was AED 100 per day, this year they increased it to AED160 per day which I really find expensive. I guess that was the main reason why it wasn’t too crowded unlike last year.
Until the next comic con! We’ll try and dress up again next year!
